A study of pap smear examination at tertiary care hospital

Background: Cervical cancer is one of the major causes mortality among women worldwide. So, research aimed to study and analyse 100 pap smear reports from presenting with various gynecological indications detection precancerous lesions.Methods: Study was carried out by taking Pap smears patient attending gynaecology OPD at CUSMC, Surendranagar 1 December 2021 January 2022. taken patients between ages 25 70 years different complaints as a routine beyond age 45 using Ayres Spatula. Smears were reported per Bethesda system.Results: Most in range 25-70 years. Vaginal discharge clinical complaint, occurring 36.96% women. An irregular menstrual cycle complaint 12.78% abdominal pain 25.63% women, while 15.15% asymptomatic. The test negative for malignancy 6%, 78% had infection or inflammation. ASCUS, LSIL, HSIL detected 8 %, 0%, respectively. Women tests positive underwent colposcopy guided biopsy.Conclusions: an easy economical screening method detect premalignant malignant lesions cervix which help proper treatment. It should be established procedure reduce treatment burden, morbidity, mortality.
